wrote the following letter home on 18 May...

18 May, Thursday, 1972 (South Vietnam Gunline) We just finished a mission that wiped out an entire enemy held town. We shot 430 rounds in about 45 minutes. Burnt the paint of the barrels. We caused 7 secondary explosions, destroyed 27 buildings, damaged 17 more, killed 10 people and blew up 13 sampans. It was the best the guns shot in 17 years. We had 4 reporters on board. They were running around taking pictures and interviews. Watch, you might see us on TV.

We've been here only 3 days and have shot about 750 rounds. The more we shot the happier everybody gets (even if it is more work). And we love to hear what we destroyed. Well, its 8PM, I have to get up at midnight. Write Soon. Love, Frank
